Bluegum Service Group is committed to the provision of safe work systems and practices and to a safe and healthy workplace for its employees and other site users.

The company has developed and maintains effective Occupational Health & Safety processes, including a comprehensive OH & S Manual and Safe Work Practices & Procedures.

Management of Occupational Health & Safety and Implementation of Processes

Management of OH & S includes the following:

Hazardous Materials Management Processes

Partly through considerations of safety, but also through environmental concerns, Bluegum Service Group increasingly seeks to minimise use of hazardous cleaning materials.

Processes for Hazardous Materials Management that may be encountered include a Chemical Management Policy and Chemical Management Procedure.

Risk Management Processes

Risk Management Practices / Processes in the context of Occupational Health & Safety start with Site Safety Inspections and Risk Assessment of each site. Particular Risk Management Processes then include the following

Identified Risks Strategies
Slips / Trips / Falls Signage in all relevant areas that exposed to the possibility of such incidents, training in service delivery and OH & S.
Emergencies: Fire / Floods / Power Failure / Chemical Spills Ensure staff are aware of emergency exits and meeting points, location of fire stairs, emergency numbers etc.
Accident / Incident Ensure staff are aware of procedure and that staff can implement replacements to ensure service completion.
Electric Shock Test and tagging of equipment on Bluegum Asset register at required intervals. Staff trained in identifying existence of hazards and reporting same for corrective action.
Working at Heights Certificate in working at heights. Timber ladders provided if electrical hazard exists. Other methods used if possible i.e. elevated work platform.
Contact with cleaning chemicals
  • Staff to report any ill effects from using chemicals
  • Long-handle mops and brushes and strong rubber gloves are provided and staff trained in their use
  • All staff trained in the risks, use and storage of cleaning chemicals
  • Use squeeze bottles when using toilet bowl cleaner
  • Bottles are clearly label
  • MSDS provided for each chemical use
Musculo Skeletal disorders (MSDs) and Injuries
  • Staff trained in correct lifting techniques
  • Long-handled mops, brushes and dusters are provided to reduce need to stretch and stoop
  • Bucket with wheels & wringer provided
  • Staff do not overfill buckets
Verbal Abuse or Assault
  • Staff trained in dealing with difficult and / or confrontational situations
  • Staff report all instances of abuse
Lone Working
  • Staff provided with mobile phones and emergency numbers to contact supervisor
  • Staff to wear reflective safety vest at all times
Collecting Litter Staff are provided with PPE and suitable tools
Needle Stick Injuries
  • Staff are provided with long handled tongs and PPE
  • Staff are trained in the correct procedure in handling of needles and proper disposal
  • Staff are advised to report any findings to Head Office
Extremes of Weather
  • Suitable PPE provided for staff working outdoors
  • Working continuously in extreme weather to be avoided
